The Google Places alternative for address autocomplete

Google Places Autocomplete is split across several APIs and SKUs, billed through session tokens, and its results have to stay on a Google map. Forecasting the bill is a project in itself.

Meet PlaceKit: worldwide address autocomplete and two-way geocoding in a single API, with coordinates included in every result, a straightforward per-request price, and results you can use with any map.

Why teams switch from Google Places

Google Places is the reference for business listings. For address entry, checkout autofill, city search and geocoding, it is more complex and more constrained than it needs to be. PlaceKit keeps it simple 👇.

One API, one counter

Autocomplete, geocoding and reverse geocoding on a single endpoint. Every call is one request; there are no session tokens and no SKU tiers to reconcile.

Built for developers

OpenAPI reference, zero-dependency client, customizable autocomplete for vanilla JS, React, Vue and Svelte, and examples for the frameworks you use.

Your data, your map, your fixes

Display results on any map, store what your users picked, and patch a wrong or missing address yourself with live patching.

Pricing, side by side

List prices in US dollars for the first 100,000 monthly events, as published by Google Maps Platform on September 6, 2026. PlaceKit prices are the standard grid.

Frequently asked questions

Is PlaceKit a drop-in replacement for Google Places Autocomplete?

Functionally yes for address and place autocomplete, forward and reverse geocoding. The API shape differs (one REST endpoint, JSON body, results with coordinates and address parts in a single call), so migrating means swapping the request layer or using our JavaScript, React or zero-dependency client libraries. Most integrations take an afternoon.

Is PlaceKit cheaper than Google Places?

For plain autocomplete requests the list prices are close: $2.83 per 1,000 at Google versus $3.00 then $2.40 at PlaceKit. The gap opens when you need the actual address data (Google bills a separate Place Details call at $5 to $20 per 1,000, PlaceKit includes it), when you pass 100,000 requests a month (PlaceKit drops to $1.90 then $1.50 and $1.20), and when you count the engineering time spent on session tokens and SKU forecasting.

Does PlaceKit return businesses and private points of interest?

No. PlaceKit focuses on addresses, streets, cities, administrative areas, countries and public points of interest such as airports, train and bus stations, town halls and tourist landmarks. If you need restaurant or shop listings with opening hours and reviews, Google Places remains the reference.

How precise are the coordinates?

Coordinates are street-level: addresses on the same street share coordinates approximated to the middle of the street. This is ideal for autocomplete, checkout autofill, delivery zoning and map pins at city or neighborhood zoom, and not suited to rooftop-level routing.

Which countries and languages are covered?

246 of the 249 ISO 3166-1 countries. Results are returned in their local language, with English and French translations available. Data comes from OpenStreetMap enriched with national datasets such as the French BAN.

Can I use PlaceKit results with Mapbox, MapLibre or Leaflet?

Yes. Our terms let you display and use results with any map provider and any back-end. There is no obligation to show a specific map or logo next to the results, except a small PlaceKit watermark in custom autocomplete UIs.
